CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES
Jill Olesker:
Storyteller With Nature Tales From Around the World
Jill Olesker will be telling nature tales from around the world and will then have participants tell their own nature experiences.  The session will end with children making scrolls of these stories.

Jill has been a teacher and storyteller for thirty five years, in schools, the woods in St. John in the US Virgin Islands, and at Unison Arts Camp in New Paltz where she runs and teach their summer day camp.  She loves working with children and adults helping them reveal the stories they have inside and sharing them with others. This has led her to start a group called Nature's Storytellers which has evolved and grown over time.

Dorothy Penz and Clyde:
“Singin’ Along”
Dorothy Penz will lead a blues-based song-making workshop where kids write the words, using their feelings, their stories, their environment, and their imaginations.  This year the theme will be Hudson 400 and nature. The children will be given penny whistles to add to the music making!  Participants will also be able to learn and sing some traditional folk songs and do some circle dances with friends.  Bring an empty water bottle to fill with beans and make your own maraca so that you can play along.  Come add your creative talents, or simply join us by lending a listening ear and a stomping foot.

A Hudson Valley native and the daughter of two musicians, Dorothy Penz divides her time between teaching pre-school at Poughkeepsie Day School and directing and performing theater in the region.  Dorothy has led workshops, camps, and programs for kids with Poughkeepsie Day School, Dutchess Arts Camp, Saugerties Art Lab, High Meadow Arts, Shandaken Theatrical Society, SUNY Ulster, Backstage Studio Productions, and the Boys and Girls Club.  She is president of the board at the Shandaken Theatrical Society in Phoenicia, NY, where she has been seen on stage in productions of Man of La Mancha (Aldonza), Bye Bye Birdie (Gloria), and The King and I (Anna).  From 2003-2006 she taught for Musical Munchkins of Ulster, Orange, and Dutchess Counties.  Dorothy lives in Rosendale, where her violin, her voice, and her guitar continue to provide rejuvenation for her heart and soul on a regular basis.  She hopes to be able to share that experience in her work.
